Don’t Fear Dependency—Just Choose It Wisely

Let’s get something straight, darlin’. Leaning on help isn’t the problem. Letting go of your own judgment—that’s where things go sideways.

You’ve probably heard it before: “Don’t get too dependent.” And sure, it sounds like good advice. But life’s not a solo mission. We all depend on something—people, tools, routines, even that second cup of coffee in the morning. What matters isn’t whether you lean. It’s where and how you lean.

Take AI, for example. Some folks are nervous about how much we use it. “Aren’t you relying too much on ChatGPT?” they ask. Well, maybe. But here’s what I tell them: Everything we use daily—phones, maps, calendars, even a favorite recipe—is a kind of crutch. It’s not about avoiding support; it’s about not forgetting how to walk.

See, real trouble shows up when we stop checking in with our own minds. When we let one thing—one person, one tool, one belief—do all the deciding. That’s when dependency turns into something heavier. Not support, but surrender.

And don’t think it’s just AI. Businesses know this game. From apps that won’t stop buzzing to gurus who promise answers to every question, many are built to keep you coming back—not stronger, but hooked. The trick is to make you feel like you can’t do it without them.

But you can. You always could.

So how do you stay upright in a world full of shiny things trying to carry you off?

You build diverse support. You don’t give one thing all the power. Spread it out. Use what helps, skip what numbs, and above all—stay awake inside your own life.

Being independent doesn’t mean being alone. It means being able to say, “Thanks, I’ll take it from here,” when you need to. It means knowing when to ask, and when to decide.

You don’t need to ditch your tools. Just don’t hand them the wheel.

So here’s my question for you:

What are you leaning on right now—and are you still the one doing the choosing?

Think on it, sweetheart. That’s where your strength lives.
